You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know
I was talking with a shareholder this week about how far we have come. From concept, to teaching young adults how to buy a rental property with no money down of their own to now an established company with 11 shareholders expertly positioned to buy Multifamily projects across Canada.
And it got me thinking back to my own Real Estate journey. If I knew now what I knew then……..well, that statement will crush most people. Haha. I absolutely would not have sold my last condo in Whistler, I would have tried to do creative financing on the sale of our primary residence in Coquitlam. But. If every step we make leads us to the next move then I may not even be a part of this corporation today! The decisions I made, led me to you. To the reader. To this group of like minded individuals who are working hard to create safe affordable housing for residents across the country and to you, the investor who is actively learning about passive Real Estate Investing.
Truly, If you are just getting started on learning about how to invest in Real Estate in a passive or active way: Welcome! We are glad to have you hear.
I often see excited eyes perk up with interest when I start talking about Real Estate, they are interested. Yet, most don't usually even understand where to start. My direct messages on social media platforms fill up with curious questions about who to learn from and where to get started. The most common thing I hear is fear around making the wrong move.
So if you are new to all this lingo, and are curious to learn you have come to the right place! Here are a few facts to help you start to understand the process:
It is common to invest in Real Estate companies and get paid a monthly, quarterly or yearly interest payment on the amount you have invested.
It is common for investors to want to reinvest their money with the same company if they are happy with their level of service and prompt payment schedule.
It is common for investors to only be investors and not be an active partner in a Real Estate transaction, (ie you will not be on title for a mortgage)
Key points to note: Do your research, invest in companies that you feel confident with and always do a gut check before you send your funds.
Start small if that fits your risk tolerance
I have met multiple amazing investors along my journey and I continue to grow my network of skilled and experienced investors.
As soon as you start uncovering one Real Estate Investing company you will discover that there is an entire industry out there that you probably didn’t even know existed.
As someone who has been interested in Real Estate for 15 years it never even crossed my mind that I could “google” how to get started or that there was this huge industry operating out there. I was too focused on my world of Healthcare and Medical sales.
