A Time for Tithing
As December rolls around, Cornerstone is excited to be jumping into the Christmas season; it’s a wonderful time of celebration and traditions! We spend the holidays visiting with family and friends, putting up lights, decorating a tree, playing in the snow (if you’re lucky enough to have snow), and spreading Christmas cheer.
Although Christmas can be a magical time, for many, it can prove to be a time of great unease and stress. The pressure of buying gifts, hosting expensive dinners, and traveling to see family can be challenging. Perhaps Christmas is usually a joyous time, but this years’ festivities are dulled due to the loss or illness of someone near and dear to your heart.
Because of this, Cornerstone belives that Christmas is an excellent time to give, or to tithe.
When we hear of titheing, many of our minds go directly to the literal definition: to give one tenth of your earnings, specifically, to the Church. Although giving money to the Church is one way to give, there are many other ways to tithe as well. We can give in an act of service, such as shovelling a neighbours drive way or a simple smile when passing a stranger on the street. We can donate our time through volunteering at local shelters, schools, or church’s. The need for blood donations heavily increase through the holiday season so this is also a great way of tithing. If money is your form of giving, but you are not a part of a church, you can find a charity, sponsor a child, or fill a shoe box for Operation Christmas Child. There are so many different ways to give during the holiday season!
As God’s stewards, the responsibility of taking care of His creation falls to us; this includes all who are in it. If you decide to give this holiday season, no the matter the amount or form, we want to remember to give with an open heart and without expectation. Titheing is a great way to create memories and impact lives so whatever you choose to do, we hope you have a very blessed holiday season.
From all of us at Cornerstone,
Merry Christmas :)
